TPL Scarborough
 

This new 15,000 sf library will be the Toronto Public Library's 100th branch. Supporting the four tilted green roof planes is an intricate glulam timber frame, which was constructed offsite and then assembled like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Watch a timelapse video of the process.

In January 2015 the Ontario building code will allow 6-storey wood frame buildings. LGA's David Warne and our Laurentian School of Architecture (LAL) were featured in an article describing the benefits of wood construction and the innovative use of cross-laminated timber at LAL.

Tree Trunk Record

What would it sound like if we played a tree trunk on a turntable? Artist Bartholomäus Traubeck found the answer by re-engineering a turntable to play slices of wood and using music software to translate the year ring data into a piano piece.
