The Mount Dennis Quilt

Mount Denis, Ontario

The Mount Dennis Quilt represents the collaborative effort of over a dozen community agencies to realise mixed-use affordable housing and community support services, surpassing what any single agency could have achieved.

Spearheaded by the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF), a Mount Dennis-based community organization, The Quilt is envisioned to invigorate this traditionally low-income and underserved community with a mixed-used development that supports the lives of its residents, the greater community, and the urban experience. This initiative is of particular importance as the neighbourhood is expecting an influx of newcomers with the imminent opening of the Eglinton Light Rail Transit Line (LRT).

The 19-storey project on Weston Road will include 132 units of affordable housing, a city-run daycare centre, offices of several non-profits including LEF, spaces for community resources and social enterprise, as well as affordable retail along an inviting streetscape.

The Quilt will be constructed from mass timber as a commitment to sustainability and to imbue the interior spaces with a warm and natural character. Designed with extensive community consultation, the housing will provide a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units to house a range of demographics.
